February Virtual Sketch Date

Click on picture to see larger

Here is my submission for the February Virtual Sketch Date. It is a view of Lake Louise supplied by Debbie Later......Thanks Deb! It has special significance for me as it is in my backyard (only about 90 minutes away) and this is where my husband proposed to me 16 years ago this May.

If you get a chance you may want to check out the Flickr photo pool for this challenge here.

  1. Oh Gail! This painting is simply wonderful! The subject must have really spoken to you! You handled the foreground beautifully, but I'm knocked out by the mountains, the shadows, the trees! Fantastic.

  2. Gail, you are very lucky to live near such natural beauty. I also believe that we do best with subjects that speak to us personally, and this one obviously spoke to you!

  6. Very nice job with the watercolor! Wow you are lucky to live so close to such beauty. I live 90 minutes away from a pretty place called Santa Barbara. I recommend it if you're ever in California.

  7. A lovely painting! I really like how you simplified the foliage in the foreground without losing any of its impact.

  9. Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments...you guys are so supportive in my painting efforts.
I ended up giving this painting to my father in law as a birthday card. Went over well and I was glad I kept a lot of the detail as he knows this spot very well.
